Parent Education: Rebuilding One's Own Life, Rediscovering Parental Love

I believe that many of you have attended various parent education classes or seminars when your children were young. Do parents still participate in such activities when their children reach secondary school? Many parents believe that as their children grow up, they naturally develop their own way of life, and teachers will guide them along the way. Moreover, with the demands of life, parents are busier than ever, struggling to make ends meet. Does this mean that parents don't need to be involved during their children's adolescence? Regardless of whether teenagers are rebellious or not, their psychological and inner needs, don't they require the care of their parents?

"Chinese people refer to their children as the 'flesh and blood' of their parents, meaning that children are a part of their parents' bodies. How parents treat themselves is how they should treat their children. The mutual attachment between parents and children is particularly important in the early stages of growth." (Excerpt from an interview with Dr. Chen Ting-san in the CUHK Alumni Journal, September 2011) In recent years, our school has organized parent education certificate courses, not just to teach everyone how to handle different student issues or how to be a certain kind of parent; the whole concept starts with oneself. To be good parents, we must first take care of ourselves and learn how to be better individuals.

One mother shared that she was not encouraged by her parents during her childhood, and they were very strict towards her. As a result, when she grew up, she lacked confidence and didn't have the courage to do many things. She even developed a strong resentment towards her own parents. Therefore, when she had her own daughter, she encouraged her in all aspects of life, instilling confidence and determination in her actions.

Our school firmly believes that a loving and caring family can address the challenges that arise during their children's growth in secondary school. Therefore, the purpose of the parent education certificate courses we offer is to provide insights from professional speakers and share experiences among participants. This helps parents understand themselves, promotes communication with their children, and fosters a more harmonious family environment, providing a more complete space for the growth of our Pingzhong students during their teenage years.
