Course aims

Students should be able to establish knowledge and understand:

  • Understand the interconnected structures and natures within the industry;
  • Recognize the relative importance of the tourism and hospitality industries to destination countries/places and the global economy;
  • Understand important issues related to tourism and hospitality, and analyze the major factors that influence the supply and demand of tourism and hospitality services;
  • Evaluate sustainable tourism strategies that should be adopted to minimize negative impacts and maximize positive impacts on the economy, environment and society;
  • Appreciate the importance of tourists and tourism/hospitality practitioners fulfilling their responsibilities with ethical standards;
  • Effectively apply skills such as information technology, communication, problem-solving and critical thinking in the dynamic tourism and hospitality environment;
  • Demonstrate basic principles of providing quality customer service
