Curriculum Aims

Economics is one of the six elective subjects under the Personal, Social and Humanities Education domain in the New Senior Secondary curriculum.

  • The aims of this curriculum are to help students develop an interest in exploring human behavior and social issues from an economic perspective; to understand the world they live in by acquiring basic economic knowledge; and through cultivating the ability of economic analysis, enable students to have the ability to make inferences and rational choices on different issues, in order to strengthen their lifelong learning ability; so that students can become knowledgeable and responsible citizens participating in the decision-making process of a modern democratic society.

 

 

Curriculum Philosophy

 

  • Through learning in this curriculum, students will understand and master the following knowledge of economic terminology and concepts, as well as basic economic theories;

  • The different approaches to dealing with basic economic problems faced by individuals and society;
  • Also recognize the potential considerations and reasons that influence the decisions of individuals, businesses, institutions and governments, as well as the interdependence between different economic sectors;
  • Lastly the economy of Hong Kong and its relationship with the mainland China and other world economic systems.

 

 


Capabilities Developed by the Curriculum

  • Students will develop relevant capabilities to understand economic information expressed in textual, numerical or graphical forms;

  • Apply economic knowledge to problems and issues in different economic contexts; and
  • Analyze data using economic concepts and theories;
  • It is hoped that students can make informed evaluations and judgments of various data, arguments, proposals and policies from different economic perspectives;
  • Also to communicate economic ideas and informed judgments clearly, logically and appropriately with others.
